Alec Guinness' finest performance.Despite Sir Alec Guinness' considerable fame associated with such great films as "The Bridge on the River Kwai", I personally prefer this brilliant character study in which Sir Alec performs against type, as a boorish, overbearing, boozy, bully of an officer who seeks to destroy the better (if more brittle) man.

Great storyAs a combat vet I found it very interesting to see how many PTSD symptoms that were being displayed by both Jock Sinclair and LTC Barrow. Very interesting as the concept of PRSD had yet to be discribed when this movie was made.
