Total Recall (1990) |
Reviews and Comments

Not a bad blue-ray ignore bad reviews.I noticed many 1 star reviews for this movie and I was disappointed as I already ordered it. The deal is this, people are calling it a poor transfer with lot's of grain, which is probably true...but the big problem is that they are saying in many cases that the dvd is better. I have both, I compared them side to side (although I didn't have to). Besides some grain the movie looks AWESOME. Not as good as a newer transfer like a transformers or across the universe but awesome nevertheless. You have to ask yourself if a little grain really bothers you considering that the resolution is incredible? The truth is the detail is ten times better then the dvd! There is grain, but it is not anything to worry about unless you are some sort of purist. Personally, I don't care, as many movies in the theater have serious grain (Sometimes intentionally on behalf of the director). For the price, this is totally worth it, I am also going to buy Stargate despite the bad reviews.

Schwarzenegger's all-time best!Inarguably, this 1990 release is one of Graz,Austria-born Arnold Schwarzenegger's all-time best, bringing in more than twenty million dollars in box office receipts. In this science fiction flick,Doug Quaid(Schwarzenegger) is sent to do some job with the(fictitious) planet Recall, like those at NASA do. But he meets a beautiful young woman(Sharon Stone,POLICE ACADEMY 4,THE QUICK AND THE DEAD). Director Paul Verhoeven later worked with Stone, doing BASIC INSTINCT in 1991,thus making Stone a breakthrough star.

Is it a Dream?First off:
If you do not like excessive violence and gore,
you will not like this movie.
There are also many "mutants", deformed human beings,
that are realistic and disturbing to look at.
"Total Recall" is an action sci-fi special effects
extravanganza and every bit of it is masterfully done.
The plot is great.
The imagination of science fiction writer Phillip K. Dick
has given us some of the greatest science fiction movies ever
such as "Blade Runner" and "Minority Report" and this one.
The protagonist has had his previous memory erased
and replaced with a different one, or has he?
He then submits himself to receiving an implanted memory
which does not work, or does it?
Is the entire adventure a dream or reality?
Is there any difference between "real" reality and perceived reality?
A big thank you to the film-makers for leaving the ending
ambiguous.
I love endings that leave you wondering and it makes
one want to see the film again.
The plot, as cool as it is, is nearly overwhelmed by the
relentless action and violence. If your an action movie
kind of person, this movie is for you.
The special effects are amazing and all pre-CGI, that is,
they were all filmed (except for two short sequences involving
a security scanner).
One complaint: a mutant woman with three breasts that are
gratuitously displayed for apparently humorous reasons not
once, but three (!) times is not at all funny.
What is the point?
One of the great science fiction and action movies.
Highly recommended.
[Shoots woman in the head] "consider that a divorce"
(woman grabs crotch)
"You're bulging all over. What are you feeding that thing"
"Blondes"
Only you Arny, only you.
