Nazi-Zombies - Better Than MostBeen looking for this one for a while and finally got to see it recently. Scared me as a kid and don't remember much except some dudes coming out of the water with goggles on their faces.
Watching it again all these years later I realize how the mind plays tricks on you. Not so much a scary movie anymore, but still better than many other movies that came out at that time. Seeing legendary actors Peter Cushing and John Caradine together was interesting (poor Caradine suffered from an extreme case of arthritis, as we can see in this movie) and I guess neat, if you want to look at it like that. The acting wasn't horrible at all, though not Oscar-worthy. The special effects and film location were good as well, giving the audience a more believable setting and action.
The few special features (commentary, interview, trailer) were okay, though I'd liked to have seen more (deleted/alternate scenes).
My only gripe with this version of the film was the quality wasn't what I expected for a DVD release. I'd heard somewhere that this version was pulled from a copy belonging to the [director, producer? not sure]. Guess you really can't complain though. Overall a good movie.

Overlooked Zombie Classic! After finally getting around to seeing Shockwaves, I have to admit that this is not only a good zombie flick, but also a good horror flick in general. The front cover of the DVD boasts it as "The best of the nazi zombie movies". Well considering the only other "nazi zombie" films I know of are Oasis of the Zombies and Zombie Lake (two terrible movies), I guess this statement is in fact true.
Shockwaves tells the tale of an indestructible group of soliders that were created so that the submarines did not require oxygen. After the war, they disappeared. Flash forward to the present, we meet a group of folks who are on a low budget "luxury" cruise and the ship's seemingly inept crew. After some type of bizzare solar eclipse, the "Death Corps" rise from the depths of the ocean to wreak havoc on the crew. Lost at sea, the ship washes up on a island inhabited by the creator of the zombies. However, the Death Corps have surrounded the island and begin their mission to exterminate the crew.
Amazingly, Shock Waves manages to be very scary without any gore or blood at all. Even the zombies are neatly clad in scuba uniforms and goggles and they refrain from any flesh eating. It maintains its eerieness solely through the dark atmosphere and haunting ambient noise that comprises the soundtrack. The film does move a bit slowly, and the lack of any gore may leave a lot to be desired for fans of more traditional zomie movies, but these aspects make it unique and worthy of being viewed. I highly recommend taking a look at this underrated movie.
