Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth

Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992)

Reviews and Comments

Good for a few laughs!
The third installment of the Hellraiser series is VERY bad. The Cenobites are what makes the Hellraiser movies so enjoyable...but they went very wrong in this sequel. I think one of the writers for this film must have previously worked at Mad Magazine. A Cenobite with a TV camera for an eye? One that throws CDs like ninja stars? How about the firebreathing Cenobite that uses a martini shaker as a molotov cocktail? Wow.

In addition to ruining the cenobites, the acting is horrificcant. Yes, the acting is so bad that I just made up a word to describe it. This film really deserves a 2 star rating, but I bumped it up to 3 just because I got a few good laughs at the movie and, to its credit, there are a few good kill scenes. But I'd only recommend this film to the die hard Hellraiser fan.

Pinhead's Third Outing Needs To Come To America!
Look, I'm not going to tell you how great this movie is, but this is truly the last of the really cool Hellraiser films. For all Star Trek:DS9 fans, it stars a young Terry Farrell, who you might also recently recognize from reruns of Ted Danson's CBS show Becker.

Anyway, the true reason why I'm writing this is to ask each of you to start some fire to get this properly released on DVD! Y'see, this version been floating around since the dawn of DVD, but it's definitely the weakest DVD presentation of all the films, while being one of the best of the series!

This disc is only in Fullframe, black-sparkly weak picture, only 2.0 audio, lame menu, and with no extras whatsoever! However, it does feature the UNCUT version of the film, and if you've only seen it in the theatre or on cable, this version's ALOT more gorier. But seriously, Anchor Bay should properly release this here in America (this is a Canadian release, in the same NTSC format as USA). They did a great job on Parts One & Two, why not this one? Probably due to it's all Heavy Metal soundtrack, and getting those past musical rights for re-release on DVD can sometimes be extremely hard, and Anchor Bay (or other release companies) probably said "It's the Third one, why bother?"! But this film deserves it, it's one of my top favorites of the series and definitely earns the right. So, start one of those online campaigns I've seen for other lost movie classics, and give "Hell On Earth" it's respect!

P.S. I've rated this disc overall only 2 stars, but the movie deserves 5 all on it's own!

P.S.S.: And to all the other reviews who didn't like this one, all I can say is two things: One, you mean you didn't like all the new Cenobites at all....really? And two, have you seen Parts 4 & 5 yet? If not, see those two & then tell me this is lame.

That was weak folks...that was weeeeeeeeaaak!!!!
To be quite frank, I did not think the first one was that good, but when I when I watched the 3rd installment of the Hellraiser series called "Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth", I just kept rolling my eyes and sighing the entire movie. There is absolutely no element of horror within this movie whatsoever...in other words, it just doesn't cut the mustard as far as a horror movie is concerned. Yeah, there is a lot of blood and gore, just like the first, but once again, that is not enough to make a good horror movie. This movie is a very weak horror movie and I give it ONE STAR and that is being oh so generous my friends. After seeing "Hellraiser", "Candyman" and "Hellraiser III", I must admit that I am completely unimpressed with the ability of Clive Barker to produce a good horror movie...frankly, "Hellraiser III" just flat out sucks...it's not the worst horror movie I've ever seen, but it sure is bad. I have not seen "Hellraiser II" or any of the Candyman sequels yet, but if it is anything like what I've seen so far from Clive Barker, I better pack my cooler jam full of beer because it's going to be another long night of pure and unaldulterated crap for me to watch and another night of unintentionally funny horror movies, which is so common from the supposedly "horror movies" of the 90's and today. Why do I waste my time on this garbage?
