American Splendor (2003) |
Reviews and Comments

Well Done!American Splendor does a masterful job of blending the real with the "reel," as we see Harvey Pekar and his real life family and friends on one hand, and the actors who portray them on the other. Wonderful editing, acting and special effects make this a great film which is both fun to watch and an interesting portrait of an unconvential, fascinating man. The movie flows so easily you'd almost think it made itself. Recommended with great delight.

Unique, Humorous, Irreverent, and MovingI've never seen a movie based on a true story where the guy it's based on narrates it and the reenactments of episodes in his life are mixed up with actual footage of the man, but the people who did this film about Harvey Pecar have done just that, and it's a very entertaining movie. It's funny to see him meet life and its difficulties with so much complaining, and how he deals with having cancer through writing a comic is truly an amazing segment of the film. Anyone who likes comics will find watching this film rewarding.
